FOUNDER · GRINDSTONE PERFORMANCE PHYSICAL THERAPY

Experience forged through service, science, and strength.

Recovery is more than something Zac has studied. It is something he has lived through: extensive orthopedic trauma, a transected sciatic nerve with paralysis below the knee, multiple surgeries, chronic pain, and every stage of rehabilitation.

That firsthand experience shapes how he treats. He understands that recovery is rarely linear and that progress may require more than symptom relief. It can mean rebuilding strength, modifying how you move, and finding durable ways to train around lasting limitations instead of waiting for every impairment to disappear.

His perspective was forged through years as an Air Force Special Warfare Combat Controller, including service within a Special Mission Unit operating at the highest level of military special operations. He brings the same preparation, adaptability, and resilience to rehabilitation. The goal is not simply to help you hurt less, but to help you understand your body, rebuild trust in what it can do, and return prepared for work, sport, and life.

Out-of-network superbills are available upon request. Your plan determines whether services are covered and how much it will reimburse.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt containing the information an insurance company typically needs to process an out-of-network claim, including the provider information, dates of service, diagnosis and procedure codes, charges, and proof of payment. Grindstone can provide one for you to submit directly to your insurer.

Every plan is different. Some plans provide no out-of-network coverage, while others reimburse a percentage of the insurer's allowed amount after you meet an out-of-network deductible. That percentage is not necessarily applied to Grindstone's full fee.

Know before you go.

01Do you accept commercial health insurance?+

Grindstone is an out-of-network, cash-based practice and does not bill commercial insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of service. Upon request, we can provide a superbill that you may submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

02What about Medicare?+

Grindstone is not enrolled as a Medicare provider and does not furnish or bill Medicare-covered physical therapy. If you are a Medicare beneficiary, please contact us before booking so we can understand what you are seeking and, when appropriate, help direct you to a Medicare-participating provider.

03What is included in my visit?+

Every visit is all-inclusive. The treatments used during your session, including dry needling when appropriate, are selected for your needs and never billed as add-ons.

04What should I expect at my first visit?+

We will discuss what is limiting you, complete a thorough physical assessment, establish a clear plan, and begin treatment. You will leave knowing what we found, what to do next, and how we will measure progress.

05Do I need to be injured or in pain?+

No. A squat that feels restricted, a shoulder that does not move comfortably overhead, a recurring limitation in training, or a desire for objective strength and mobility baselines are all appropriate reasons to come in. We can identify measurable limitations and build a focused plan around what you want your body to do better.

06Do I need to be an athlete?+

No. Grindstone works with active adults and athletes at every level. You only need a meaningful movement, strength, training, work, or performance goal.

07Do I need a referral?+

No referral is needed to receive physical therapy at Grindstone. North Carolina permits direct access to physical therapy, and because Grindstone does not bill insurance directly, you may schedule and begin care without an order from another provider. If you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement, your insurance plan may separately require a referral or prior authorization before it will reimburse you.
